Agency and Financial Aid Charges

To ensure a successful start to your semester, all required textbooks should be purchased on or before the first day of class. Financial Aid will be disbursed after classes start, so plan to use your funds to purchase your textbooks. In the event you are unable to provide your own funding for textbooks, you may charge them to your student account in the Bookstore if you meet the following:

  • A student ID card is required at the time of the charge.
  • The student must have a current FAFSA on file with É«ÖÐÉ«.
  • If another company or organization is paying for your textbooks, an Authorization Voucher must be on file in the Bookstore before you can charge. Agencies include Rehabilitation Services DRS, Minnesota Valley Action Council (MVAC), Minnesota Workforce Center, Minnesota Department of Economic Security Trade Act Training (TAA), and Veterans Benefits (VETS). Any of these types of charges need to be done in-store and cannot be done online.
  • If a student is using NELNET/FACTS plan to pay for tuition and is enrolled in that program seven days before school begins, they may use these funds for textbooks also.
  • All bookstore student charges are allowed during a limited period each term. Watch the and SCC Important Dates pages for exact dates.
PSEO Students

PSEO students should order textbooks through the SCC Bookstore website. Free shipping is available through the first week of the term, or choose order pickup at either Campus Store. PSEO online ordering instructions are located under the "Textbooks" tab of the .

All required textbooks, packets, kits, and other consumables are rented to you at no charge, but you are responsible for returning them to the Campus Stores at the end of each semester. Unreturned or damaged items will be billed to your student account.

Return Policy

Textbook Returns
Returns are allowed through the second week of Fall and Spring terms and through the first week of Summer session. A packing list or receipt is required. New textbooks must be in the same new condition for a full refund. Written in, highlighted, or damaged books will be refunded as used. Opened textbooks with access codes and/or software are not returnable. Textbooks purchased online may be returned to either Campus Store or mailed back — customers are responsible for return shipping fees.

General Merchandise Returns
All merchandise must be in the same condition as purchased, in unopened original packaging with original pricing. Clothing should not be washed or worn and tags must be attached. Software and electronics must be returned unopened. All general merchandise must be returned within seven days with a receipt or packing slip.

Refund Method
Cash purchases over $100 will be refunded by check. Personal check purchases will not be refunded until at least 14 days after the date of purchase. Credit card purchases will be credited back to the original card. Student charge purchases will be credited back to the student account.

Book Buyback

The SCC Bookstore offers book buyback at the end of each semester to obtain books for the following term. Buyback occurs during the last two weeks of the term — no summer buyback is offered on campus. A year-round is also available.

What determines if my book will be bought back?

  • An instructor has chosen the book for the upcoming semester and it is the most current edition.
  • The Bookstore has a need for additional inventory. If not, a used book vendor may purchase it at current market value — old editions usually have zero value.
  • Book condition: excessive highlighting, torn or missing pages, permanent writing, or missing pieces (CDs, access codes) affect value.
  • Study guides and workbooks must be clean and complete.

What will I be paid?

  • Current edition the Bookstore needs: 50% of the new selling price.
  • Book with unknown future use: 20%–50% of the new selling price.
  • No Bookstore need: a used vendor pays wholesale market value, typically 1%–33% of national retail price.

Not all books are guaranteed to be bought back. Tip: sell early in the buyback period, use pencil when highlighting, and keep books in good condition.
