This collection of documents on the presidency continues the Ashbrook聽Center鈥檚 extended series of document collections covering major聽periods, themes, and institutions in American history and government. The聽volume begins with Alexander Hamilton鈥檚 commentary on those sections聽of the Constitution related to the executive branch; it ends with President聽Barack Obama鈥檚 address to the nation defending his interpretation聽of executive authority under the Constitution to use force against the聽Syrian regime. It covers not only the role of the executive branch in聽our constitutional order, but also the specific questions of presidential聽selection, term limits, and impeachment. Its documents also explore the聽president鈥檚 responsibility to oversee the executive branch (including聽the removal power, the power to remove executive branch officials聽from office) and his authority as commander in chief and in regards to聽foreign policy.
