| Description | This course is designed to orient the student to the rescue environment. Emphasis is placed on the role and responsibilities of the paramedic during a rescue response, including essential skills needed to keep the paramedic and the patient safe. Topics include Mass Casualty Incidents (includes ICS & START disaster response), hazardous materials, basic rescue, water and ice rescue awareness, high level-low angle rescue, emergency driving, special rescue situations and auto extrication for the paramedic. Also included is an introduction to advanced intensive care paramedic skills. Additional clinical rotations will also be completed. |

Pre/Corequisites
Prerequisite: Admission into the Paramedic Program. All Classes must be taken in sequence.

- Integrate the principles of operations to safely function in medical transport.
- Integrate the principles of operations to safely operate an emergency vehicle.
- Integrate the principles of general incident management and multiple casualty incident (MCI) management techniques in order to function effectively at major incidents.
- Integrate the principles of Triage at multiple casualty incidents (MCI)
- Integrate the principles of general incident management using the guidelines set by NIMS.
- Develop, execute and evaluate a management plan based on the field impression for a patient exposed to WMD.
- Integrate the principles of rescue awareness and operations to safely rescue a patient from vehicle entrapment.
- Integrate the principles of rescue awareness and operations to safely rescue a patient from hazardous atmospheres.
- Integrate the principles of rescue awareness and operations to safely assist in the rescue of a patient from a trench.
- Integrate the principles of rescue awareness and operations to safely assist in the rescue of a patient from water.
- Integrate the principles of rescue awareness and operations to safely rescue a patient from hazardous terrain.
- Integrate the principles and practices of hazardous materials response in an effective manner to prevent and limit contamination, morbidity, and mortality.
- Integrate the principles of scene management and operations to safely respond to a patient at a crime scene.
- Integrate the principles of scene management and operations to safely respond to a patient at a violent scene.
- Integrate the principles CISD into MCI management.
