Course Title Cardiac Care in EMS (Copy)
Description The course will prepare the EMT-P to assess and manage those cardiac emergencies that result from coronary atherosclerosis, along with a number of conditions involving pathology of peripheral/central circulation. The interpretation of cardiac dysrhythmias receives much emphasis in this course. ACLS Provider certification may be included.

Pre/Corequisites

Prerequisite: Admission into the Paramedic Program. All Classes must be taken in sequence.

  1. Integrate cardiac pathophysiology into patient assessment and clinical decision-making.
  2. Interpret electrocardiographic findings to identify cardiac rhythms and ischemic changes.
  3. Formulate field impressions using patient history, assessment findings, and ECG interpretation.
  4. Implement evidence-based management plans for patients with cardiac emergencies.
  5. Apply pharmacological, electrical, and mechanical interventions in cardiac care.
  6. Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify treatment plans accordingly.
  7. Manage cardiac arrest using current resuscitation guidelines.
  8. Communicate cardiac assessment findings and treatment plans using accepted EMS formats.
